The operation cannot complete because of an unknown error [CANT]

Since switching some of our work PC’s to Microsoft Windows 8 we been having a really annoying issue with the majority of Adobe applications.

The problem occurred when I was trying to save for the web with adobe illustrator (or dragging and dropping Illustrator items to Photoshop).

This was the error:

The operation cannot complete  because of an unknown error [CANT]

After searching around and being told to try install all sorts of patches which didn’t help, we have finally come upon a fix, a really easy, simple fix that should never be needed.

Here is the simple fix: Run Adobe Applications as Administrator.

You can right click on the .exe file or shortcut and select “Compatibility” and then at the bottom of the screen there is Privilege Level, Simply tick “Run this program as an administrator”.

I highly suggest doing this for all of your Adobe Applications such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, InDesign and more!

I am having that problem at work where I am not an admin and on a Mac to boot. Please advise.

Usually, the second time you start Illustrator after the error, the program will ask you to launch a diagnostics. Launch that and wait for a few minutes. The program will auto rectify the issues and will start normally once again.. Worked for me (Adobe Creative Cloud)

This worked for me. Thanks! (not happy that I will have to run it as administrator, but since I don’t know how to actually fix the issue…)
